Genres You Loathe

Last week I wrote about how fast I seem to read contemporary YA romance type books.

Then I read Elizabeth Bird's post about genres you just don't like. I am like her in that I just can't get into animal books. At all.

I try them, I do. And there have been some I like (Rabbit Hill, Charlotte's Web). But for the most part I don't even bother.

So tell, me is there a genre you just don't like reading?

Or is there an animal book you are sure I would love?

Tell me what you think!

(I did also used to dislike mystery series, but have learned to really enjoy them!)

  1. I can see how some might dislike those! I did love Rot & Ruin though.

  2. I have a really hard time getting into animal books too, especially when there aren't any humans there. Steampunk is a genre I want to like, but I don't really. A lot of adult books just aren't my cup of tea either.

  4. I suppose I don't like horror books but I don't read them, so it's hard to know ^^ And I'm not really attracted by paranormal romance, just not my thing !

For animal books.. I don't really know, I guess it depends how it's written. But I can easily get why you don't enjoy them ! :)

  5. I used to not like mysteries but have really come around to enjoying them as the years go by, so maybe someday I will come around to animal books!

  6. Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH or Redwall/Mossflower/Martin the Warrior are the only ones I can think of that I remember. There is also A Cricket in Times Square, and one about a cat that kept pet mice (why can't I remember the name of that one?) that my younger self is telling me are good, but I haven't read any anthropomorphic stories in a while. :)

If you are looking for a slightly older (audience-based) novel, I've heard The Sight (wolves) and Firebringer (deer) are both very good. Here's hoping one clicks for you!
