Review: The Future of Us by Jay Asher & Carolyn Mackler

4 yummy 7-layer bars.

Cover Love:
Yes. I like that you can not clearly see the main characters but they are there. And that it looks like a page of computer code. So cool!

Why I Wanted to Read This: The synopsis! What an intriguing idea. Here it is from Good Reads:
It's 1996, and Josh and Emma have been neighbors their whole lives. They've been best friends almost as long - at least, up until last November, when Josh did something that changed everything. Things have been weird between them ever since, but when Josh's family gets a free AOL CD in the mail, his mom makes him bring it over so that Emma can install it on her new computer. When they sign on, they're automatically logged onto their Facebook pages. But Facebook hasn't been invented yet. And they're looking at themselves fifteen years in the future.
By refreshing their pages, they learn that making different decisions now will affect the outcome of their lives later. And as they grapple with the ups and downs of what their futures hold, they're forced to confront what they're doing right - and wrong - in the present.

I Kept Reading Because:
It was so interesting! I just couldn't stop.

Romance?: Yes. Some, but it was not the main focus of the story.

What I Liked (& Didn't):
I loved all of the characters. Emma did get on my nerves a bit with her obsession about the future, but I think I would be equally obsessed so I have to cut her some slack. But I really liked Josh and their friends.

The whole time "travel" aspect was so interesting. I have so many thoughts about it. If I was a senior in high school and saw pictures of myself as I am today I just might wonder if I am happy or not. But it takes so many years to get where you are today and so many experiences. It all builds to who you become.

I love that Josh pointed out to Emma that she is only seeing tiny glimpses of her future. She shouldn't jump to conclusions about her future happiness by those small things. It was one of the things that annoyed me about her.

It was interesting how quickly small things they did changed their future. The ripples were big.

And if you found out something about your friend and her future, what would you do to try and change that?

To Sum Up: Such a good story about internet usage and futures and romance. Super good stuff!

Book from my personal library.
