Tween Tuesday: A Year Without Autumn by Liz Kessler

4 old fashioned oatmeal cookies.

Cover Love: Yes because I love the look of Autumn on the book. The colored leaves blowing in the wind! It makes me want to read it for sure.

Why I Wanted to Read This:
The cover drew me in first. Then I noticed the author, who I have liked in the past. And the synopsis really intrigued me. Here it is from GoodReads:

It all changed in the elevator. When Jenni Green stepped into its compartment and pushed the button, her mother was pregnant and her best friend Autumn seemed secure and happy. When she stepped out, everything in her world changed. A year had passed; the baby had been born, and something had happened to Autumn's family. Jenni must confront a question for which nothing in her twelve years has prepared her: How can she alter the past to fix the present? A novel you can't predict and won't forget.

I Kept Reading Because: I wanted to see Jenni fix everything!

Romance?: Nope!

What I Liked (& Didn't):
Jenni and Autumn's friendship is one of those that I doubt would stay together longer than middle school. However good friends they are, I think they would be bound to grow apart anyway--because they are so different. But, after what Jenni goes through the friendship just might stick into adulthood.

Once Jenni figures out what keeps making her jump ahead in time, I was yelling at her to go back in time to stop all that happens. Instead she keeps moving forward to get a look of the next year, then the next. And things were not getting better!

But it does ask the question, would you want to look into the future? (sidenote; I was reading this in the car driving to another appointment for my son who was recently diagnonsed with crohns disease and I told my mom that I wish I could just peek and see him as a senior in high school after all this has settled (hopefully)).

I didn't love Autumn at the beginning, but the changes she went through were well written. You really felt for her.

To Sum Up: This was a well written time travel story with a satisfying ending. Good stuff for middle schoolers!

eGalley received from NetGalley and Candlewick. Thanks!
