I have to say chalkboard. I still love the smell of chalk dust! As much as I love white board (especially the new interactive whiteboards) I still love chalk!
My friend has a great one that her uncle had in his barn. It is so cool! I hope you find the perfect one. I want a card catalog for my house (old wood one)!
White board! I had a chalkboard for a couple of years in Butte, and they are just too messy. :-)
