Review: The Power of Six by Pittaucs Lore

4 very double chocolate chip cookies.

Cover Love:
Yes. This is very eye catching and it goes along with the story. I like how it is different from I Am Number Four but similar enough to signify a series.

Why I Wanted to Read This:
I loved I Am Number Four. It was a quick, action packed read so I was very excited for the sequel!
Here's the synopsis from GoodReads:
I've seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened in Ohio. John Smith, out there, on the run. To the world, he's a mystery. But to me . . . he's one of us.

Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has changed us—if we all still believe in our mission. How can I know? There are six of us left. We're hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another . . . but our Legacies are developing, and soon we'll be equipped to fight. Is John Number Four, and is his appearance the sign I've been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who may be strong enough to bring the six of us together?

They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio—and failed.

I am Number Seven. One of six still alive.

And I'm ready to fight.

I Kept Reading Because:
Seven's story was very interesting and I was glad that we still got to see Six, Four and Sam. Kept me interested!

Romance?: a few hints at one or two.

What I Liked (& Didn't):
Answers! We finally get some answers. One of my problems with I Am Number Four is that it was not really explained why the Mogadorains were after the Garde. There was finally an answer! And one I understood and thought was great!

I adored Six, was glad that she, John and Sam were big parts of this story.

I loved Seven. Her story was super interesting. This isn't a spoiler since it comes up early in the book, but I thought it was a great twist that her Cepan had given up her purpose for life in the convent. It just added a little tension in the story.

There were a few twists along the way. Good ones. And some good progress made in the action against the Mogadorians. We do meet one more number later on, he is a boy and he is AWESOME. I loved him almost more than Six. But he was only in it a bit at the end, kind of like Six at the end of I Am Number Four.

The action towards the end of the book was fast and intense. I could barely put the book down once I got there! All through the book there were well written fight scenes where we got to see them all using their legacies. And all of them have different legacies and all of them are cool.

This does not fall into the middle book syndrome (not sure how many books will be in the series, but I could see it ending after one more). It was a great story!

To Sum Up: A great follow-up to I Am Number Four. Leaves me very excited for the next book!

Book received from HarperTeen. Thanks so much Michael!

  4. Pam: Make sure you read I Am Number Four first. You would be a little bit confused if you don't. They are great books and very popular in my library.

  6. I just loved it. I know a lot of people criticize the writing, but I gotta say, those people are not middle schoolers. They love these books!
