Review: Choker by Elizabeth Woods

3.5 chewy and soft oatmeal butterscotch chip cookies.

Cover Love: I like this cover, and there is something on it that made put my brain on a theory track while reading this book. I am not sure if it was meant to, but it did for me!

Why I Wanted to Read This: I actually didn't have this on my to-read list because there is no synopsis on Good Reads or Amazon. But, I was able to get a egalley from Simon & Schuster's galley grab. I read a few reviews after I had a copy so I decided to give it a try.

Why I Kept Reading: To be honest, about 1/4 of the way in I almost stopped. But that's when I read a glowing review and made my theory about what was going on with Cara. Once I readjusted how I looked at the story I kept reading because I wanted to see if I was right!

Romance: Yes, but just a little bit. Not at all the driving force of the story.

What I Liked (& Didn't):
(again, a real time review--done as I was reading the book)

I am just not connecting with Cara. I think she was written this way on purpose, but I just kind of want to smack her.

I am about 1/4 of the way and am seeing changes in Cara. I have a theory but will wait to see if it actually fleshes out...

Almost halfway through and I actually now have two theories about what might really be going on. One is really bold--if the author goes that way I will applaud her.

I have finished. The last half of the book just flies. Good creepiness factor and some scary bits. Definitely enough to keep my interest!

Still didn't love Cara, but that was okay. The author kind of went the way I thought it was going, but with an even more interesting twist.

Because I am a seasoned movie watcher and book reader I was able to see the clues a little better about what was going on with Cara and Zoe. I think if I was a young adult reader, though, I wouldn't see it and the twist in the end would be really mind-blowing for me.

To Sum Up: Very intense, creepy read. Upper middle grade girls and young adult readers will enjoy the twists in this one and the author was very brave in how she ended the book!

Book received as an ebook through Simon & Schuster's Galley Grab program.
