It's the Writing

Again, I find myself totally sucked into Todd & Viola's very chaotic world in Monsters of Men. I have learned that this a series that I might love, but that most people don't love. I gush about these books, especially The Knife of Never Letting Go, but really, only one person that has read it off of my recommendation has liked it as much as me. As I was reading late into the night last night I was analyzing what it is about these books that makes it so hard for me to put them down. Here's what I got:

Patrick Ness is a great writer. I wonder if he is truly a great writer, or if he just found a great voice in this story and these characters. Time will tell on that.

This is a very creative story/world. It's like nothing I ever read before. He said in an interview he got the idea off of the lack of privacy people have on the internet. Why he made men the only ones affected I don't know--but it makes it intriguing.

The chapters/sections are short. They are quick to read so it's easy to say, "just one more" and then an hour later realize that just one more was just 20 more.

I truly want to know what happens. I am aching for a happy resolution for Viola and Todd, but after what happened with Lyra and Will I am not overly optimistic.

Whatever the reason, I am happy to be along for the ride!!
