Book Snobbery

No matter what you think, the casting of Charlie Hunnam of Christian Grey was a good idea.  Here's how I know.  Up until it was announced that he was cast I had no desire to read these books or see this movie.  At all.

Then it was announced Charlie got the role.

I love Sons of Anarchy so much.  Charlie's Jax Teller is awesome and dangerous and sexy as hell.  He is the main reason I love that show.

So, I decided to read the first book.  I am now on the third one.  They aren't bad and there is certainly something about them because I can't stop reading them and neither can most women I know.

The funny thing is that some people think they are superior to me because they read "adult" books and I read YA and MG books.  I used to feel I was above reading Fifty Shades, but I can tell you now, I am not.

And as I read the book and the descriptions of Christian and the looks he gives Anastasia I realized that Charlie will be the perfect Christian.  It was genius casting.

  1. I'm with you. I haven't read it. (I skimmed to the sexy scenes) BUT when they cast him and I thought, "Oh yeah I have to see it now." I don't watch SOA but he is sooooooooooooo sexy.

    1. So, sexy! I just can't wait. It could be awful, but I will still go. I mean it's Charlie and sex, how bad could it be?

  2. I hate snobbery in most cases, esp book snobbery. I have no desire to read 50 shades (I've seen a few bits here and there and I don't like the writing) but I don't begrudge anyone for reading it. I am all for more people reading, no matter what it is. I like to call 50 Shades the gateway smut. Hopefully people who don't read smutty books will read it and decide to explore the genre more. There's so much more to romance/erotica and I hope that 50 Shades gets people interested in it.

    1. And that's perfect! I got a lot of crap from some of my friends for reading them, but again know many friends who have read them. It's all good! As long as it gets people reading, right?!

    2. Exactly! There are so many books in the world. We don't all have to read or like every one. But why make fun of or prevent someone from reading what they want? Makes no sense. And I think Charlie Hunnam is pretty hot, too.
