Review: Other Words for Love by Lorraine Zago Rosenthal

3 yummy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.

Cover Love:  It's alright, but I don't love it.  I don't think it is overly eye-catching but the muted colors do fit the tone!

Why I Wanted to Read This:  I love contemporary teen romances.  I have had this one for over a year and finally got around to reading it.  Here's the synopsis from GoodReads:

When an unexpected inheritance enables Ari to transfer to an elite Manhattan prep school, she makes a wealthy new friend, Leigh. Leigh introduces Ari to the glamorous side of New York—and to her gorgeous cousin, Blake. Ari doesn't think she stands a chance, but amazingly, Blake asks her out. As their romance heats up, they find themselves involved in an intense, consuming relationship. Ari's family worries that she is losing touch with the important things in life, like family, hard work, and planning for the future.
When misfortune befalls Blake's family, he pulls away, and Ari's world drains of color. As she struggles to get over the breakup, Ari must finally ask herself: were their feelings true love . . . or something else?
I Kept Reading Because:  It was a realistic teen romances set in the 80's.  How could I stop reading it?!

Romance?:  Lots!

What I Liked:
I really liked that it was set in the 80's in New York.  That's when I grew up and many of the things the author talked about I remember (although I didn't grow up in New York).

I really liked Blake and Ari's romance.  Blake was great and Ari was able to become her own person through the course of her relationship, after lots of ups and downs!

I guess the best thing about this book is that it was very realistic.  That's what makes it a good teen romance.  However, that doesn't make it very fun.  There is a lot of pain in this book!  I have to admit, I like mine with a lot more fun.  The ending is not sad though.  I enjoyed how Ari was able to grow up during the course of the book.

To Sum Up:  I did really enjoy this book but I didn't love it like I did some of the other teen romances I have read over the past few years.

  1. This sounds interesting and I like the setting and time period. Like you mention it is more fun some times to be able to put ourselves in the time or place. I can def. remember the 80's-I was in college at the time.

    1. I guess I liked how more realistic this one was, but I still like my teen romances to end more happy.
