Tween Tuesday: Scorpia Rising by Anthony Horowitz

4 soft & chewy double chocolate chip cookies.

Cover Love: I actually really like the covers for this series. Good color and the illustrations convey lots of energy.

Why I Wanted to Read This:
I adore Alex Rider books! When I heard this was the last book I had bittersweet feelings. On the one hand I don't want these stories to end, on the other, Alex needs to get out of the spy business! He has had too many things happen to him. Anyway, here's the synopsis on GoodReads:
Scorpia has dogged Alex Rider for most of his life. They killed his parents, they did their best to con Alex into turning traitor, and they just keep coming back with more power. Now the world's most dangerous terrorist organization is playing with fire in the world's most combustible land: the Middle East. No one knows Scorpia like Alex. And no one knows how best to get to Alex like Scorpia. Until now.

The chases have never been more intense, the fights more treacherous, or the risks so perilous to mankind. And this time, Alex won't get away.

I Kept Reading Because: I was ready to see how this ended for Alex!

Romance?: No.

What I Liked (& Didn't):
There were all the regular Alex elements that I liked. The fact that he is more clever and resourceful than most the adults around him; the fact that everyone always underestimates him; the gadgets and the impossible odds. Alex almost always comes out on top (but this time there are scars).

I don't like the timeline of these books. I have been reading them for years but in the books Alex has only been going on missions for about a year.

Alex has to deal with some really huge issues this time around. I was very glad he was able to get out of the spy game at the end.

I love that the author brought back a lot of things from previous books, or someone would at least mention a previous mission Alex had been a part of. It made for a good swan song.

Overall, this was a good ending to a fantastic series. One that will love on for many, many readers.

To Sum Up: The whole idea of Alex Rider--a teenage spy for MI6--was such a good one. Anthony Horowitz did a great job bringing the stories to life. Good gadgets and Alex always beating the bad guys. Great stuff!

Book bought for my library.

  1. I'm not one to normally read these books but your review and the rating has me getting ready to order three for my nephews! Looks like I need to get them hooked on a new series... especially since Harry Potter is over!

  2. I've read all of the Alex Rider books. I just love spy books but the romance fanatic in me wished there could be some romance! Oh well. I have a problem with the time line too. It feels like it should be a lot later than it is!

I know! If he had gotten a little older we might have gotten some romance.

    Jen:
But, Harry Potter will never be truly over, we have lots of generations to introduce him to! Another good choice for your nephews is the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull. Great books!
