Tween Tuesday: The Ugly Truth

Tween Tuesday is hosted by GreenBeanTeenQueen. Check her out!!

4 frosted brownies (those are cookies right?).

Cover Love: All of the Wimpy Kid books have great covers. Bright but simple.

Why I Wanted to Read This:
Because the Wimpy Kid books are so funny!

What I Liked (& Didn't):
I enjoyed this book a lot, but didn't laugh out loud as much as the first three. It is just amazing how self centered and jerky Greg is--yet how is appealing as well.

This one was very good, funny and enjoyable. It seemed a lot quicker to read than the first few--maybe more pictures?

I love the consistency of these books--I am glad that Jeff Kinney is not out to change Greg or make him grow. We all know that tweens and teens do the same dumb thing over and over. Change and growth only comes with time, not necessarily experience.

I adore how Kinney sent Greg's mom back to school so the Heffley men had to fend for themselves. As a mother of only boys I often wonder what such a thing would look like at my own house...

What I Would Like to See:
I don't think I want anything to change. I know that readers will out grow Greg but new readers will just discover him. He is a character for the ages and I hope we get to see more of Greg's escapades!

To Sum Up:
Whether you think Greg is a bad influence or not, I encourage you to let a young reader in your life give Greg a try. Good stuff!!

  5. I guess the nice thing about Greg not growing with readers is that he can continue to be fresh for a new group of kids. But it is frustrating to see him not learn anything. Always funny though.

  6. I love how you described Greg here: self centered and jerky...yet how is appealing as well.

I love that about his character. It is nice to see a tween book that doesn't have an unrealistic role model character.

I love the facial expressions in these books. So simple, yet they capture so much.
